Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica, who is also Chairman of the Organising Committee of the 25th Summer World University Games, Universiade, today presided over the Committee's second session and highlighted that the organisation of the 2009 Universiade to be held in Belgrade is in many ways important for Serbia and its capital city.
Speaking at the session held at the Serbian government building, Kostunica said that the government will do its level best to make Belgrade a good host of this big sporting manifestation.
The Committee adopted the report on its work in 2005 and the plan for 2006, which includes the beginning of construction of a sport village in the Block 67 in New Belgrade.
The Organising Committee also adopted a draft contract on special building conditions at the construction sites in the sport village, which will be signed with bidders selected through public tender.
Members of the Organising Committee said that Serbia-Montenegro represented its organisation skills in the best possible way at the Universiade in Izmir in Turkey last year and will do the same in Bangkok and Torino which will host the summer and winter University Games in 2007, and in the Chinese city Harbin where the 2009 winter Universiade will be held.
Honorary Chairman of the Organising Committee of the 25th Summer Universiade is Borislav Stankovic, and deputy chairmen are Serbian Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus, Belgrade Mayor Nenad Bogdanovic and President of the Serbia-Montenegrin University Sports Federation Sinisa Jasnic.
