Innovative economy backbone of cooperation with Ireland in coming period

Belgrade/Dublin, 21 April 2023

Prime Minister Ana Brnabic met today in Dublin with Chairman of the Irish Parliament's Joint Committee on European Union Affairs Colm Brophy, emphasising that the European family of nations is a natural place to which Serbia as well as the entire Western Balkans belong.

The Prime Minister expressed her gratitude to Ireland as a country that is one of the biggest proponents of EU enlargement, stressing that it is important for the entire Western Balkans region, given that it is the best way to ensure peace and stability, which are key prerequisites for economic progress and better life for all citizens of the entire region.

Brnabic pointed to Serbia's obvious progress in the process of European integration and underlined the importance of the Republic of Ireland's support for the opening of what used to be a chapter and now a cluster in the process of our country's accession to the European Union.

The Prime Minister wrapped up her two-day visit to the Republic of Ireland with this meeting. Today's meeting with Brophy, as well as yesterday's talks with Prime Minister of Ireland Leo Varadkar, Deputy Prime Minister of Ireland, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Defence Micheál Martin, Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Employment Simon Coveney and the Director of the Industrial Development Agency Michael Lohan, are a safe way to improve the overall relations between the two countries.

The Prime Minister reminded about the importance of the exchange of experience between the two countries in the field of innovative economy and added that this will be the backbone of cooperation in the coming period.

At the end of her visit to Ireland, Brnabic expressed her gratitude to the hosts for their hospitality and said that there is significant room for increasing economic cooperation between the two countries, whose trade in services is currently at the level of €500 million, but that she is sure that it will increase in the near future.
