The government provided this assistance in cooperation with the Serbian Directorate for Commodity Reserves, Serbian Health Insurance Fund, Department for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of the Interior, Serbian Red Cross, the Commissariat for Refugees and Migration, as well as domestic companies.
The dispatch of the aid, which was sent to the citizens of Syria tonight, was attended by Minister of the Interior Bratislav Gasic and Ambassador of Syria to Serbia Bassem Jouman Agha.
Gasic pointed out on this occasion that the government has already approved aid in the amount of €1 million, which was paid to Syria, and added that at the moment there are approximately 100 tons of aid left in the warehouses for receiving humanitarian aid provided by the government, citizens and domestic companies, which will be shipped to Syria by road and sea transport.
The Minister pointed out that ten days ago, the first contingent of aid was sent on a special Air Serbia flight in the form of seven tons of goods, food products, as well as powdered milk, which was a donation from the Republic's commodity reserves.
He noted that the Serbian government provided a similar aid package to Turkey, most of which has already been dispatched through the daily cooperation of the Operational Team, the Embassy of the Republic of Turkey and Turkish Airlines.
The Ambassador of Syria expressed his gratitude to the government of Serbia and Minister Gasic, who made it possible to send the shipment to the vulnerable population in his country.
This shipment is the result of good cooperation between the Serbian government and the Syrian embassy, he pointed out, explaining that it will mean a lot both in the medical sense and for the care of people who are now homeless.
The Serbian government established the Operational Team for the Coordination of Humanitarian Aid for the Republic of Turkey and the Syrian Arab Republic, with the task of coordinating the acquisition of information about their needs in goods, determining the type, quantity and priority of sending goods and methods of transporting goods, as well as sending financial aid collected from by natural and legal persons through special humanitarian numbers of mobile operators on the territory of Serbia and other collected financial aid.
Wishing to provide additional help, but also respecting the wishes of the citizens, the government, in cooperation with the Red Cross of Serbia, opened a humanitarian SMS number 1004, and all funds collected in this way will be donated to the Syrian Red Crescent, through the mechanism of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent in Geneva.
An SMS number for sending financial aid to Turkey - 1003 - has also been opened.
