Minister of the Interior Bratislav Gasic spoke today at the Kalotina border crossing in Bulgaria with Bulgarian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivan Demerdzev about improving cooperation between the two police forces, especially in the area of suppressing irregular migration and smuggling migrants.

In this context, the need to establish more effective measures against migrant smugglers and irregular migration as a whole was emphasised, especially because illegal migrants to Serbia mostly come from the direction of Bulgaria.
Serbia is ready to strengthen border surveillance and work on intensifying joint operational cooperation with Bulgaria in the fight against smuggling groups that organise organised transport of migrants across our territories, Minister Gasic said.
Demerdzhiev pointed out that Bulgaria is aware of the problem of irregular migration and stressed that they see Serbia as a reliable partner in the decisive fight against smugglers.
The ministers also discussed strategic solutions for strengthening capacity at border crossings, which aim to improve cross-border traffic.
