Faster progress towards EU common goal of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Minister of European Integration Tanja Miscevic spoke today in Belgrade with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konakovic about additional cooperation between the two countries on the way to membership in the European Union, as well as about improving regional cooperation, which is an important element of the accession process.

Miscevic and Konakovic assessed that the reforms implemented by both countries in EU accession can be more effective if the opportunities provided by the negotiation process and EU pre-accession funds are jointly used.

The Minister of European Integration pointed out that Serbia is ready to help the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the screening, as the initial phase of the accession negotiations, in order to fulfill further requirements from the accession process as quickly as possible.

She noted that the text of the memorandum on cooperation in the field of European integration has been agreed upon and that it would soon be harmonised, so that with that document the two countries would further strengthen cooperation during the EU accession negotiations themselves, but also in the use of the Union's development aid, bearing in mind the concrete benefits that the citizens of the two countries can have even before joining the membership.

It was concluded that the common goal is the faster progress of the Western Balkans on the European path and that one of the steps should be greater access to the single European market, so that the living and working conditions for everyone in the region are closer to the European standard.
