The agreement was signed at the National Dispatcher Centre of the public electric power transmission company Elektromreza Srbije and the event was also attended by Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Emanuele Giaufret, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Sinisa Mali, Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic and Director-General of Elektromreza Srbije Jelena Matejic.
The agreement envisages assistance to our country so that it could go through the current energy crisis more easily. The money will be available for the implementation of the energy road map of the Serbian government, which describes what EU funds should be spent on.
Vucic underlined that this is a great and important day for our country, given that in just one day we received as a gift from the EU one percent of our envisaged revenues for the annual budget.
We believe it is important to not only continue cooperation with the EU, but also to accelerate the European path, work on the rule of law and the further democratisation of society and all those things that make life better for the citizens of Serbia, the President stated.
According to Vucic, our merchandise trade with the EU stood at around €40 billion, which is a 27.7 percent increase in relation to 2021 and it accounts for 59 percent of our total merchandise trade with the world.
He explained that since the transitional trade agreement from 2009, our merchandise trade with the EU has grown four times with the year 2022 inclusive, of which exports as much as 5.4 times, namely, €14.5 billion.
Giaufret said that the Financial agreement for the energy support package is a concrete example of the EU’s solidarity with Serbia and its citizens, which will help vulnerable families and entrepreneurs to cope with the energy crisis, enable energy security for Serbia, support the energy road map and its goals, as well as transition to green energy.
He stated that there is a full and unambiguous commitment of the European Union to the Western Balkans, including Serbia.
