Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic spoke last night in Brussels with European Commissioner for Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Oliver Várhelyi.
After the meeting, Vesic pointed out that in the coming period, the largest grant that Serbia has received from the European Union will be signed in the amount of €600 million for the construction of the Belgrade-Nis high-speed railway.
He added that he also discussed other grants and projects with European officials in Brussels and that a joint commission will be formed in Belgrade to monitor all projects in Serbia financed by the EU in order to accelerate them and solve problems faster.
The Minister presented a proposal, which according to him was well received, concerning the joint project of the EU and Serbia for the reconstruction of 588 km of regional railways and pointed out the importance of the reconstruction of smaller regional routes.
There will be two railways connecting Serbia and Romania, one from Belgrade towards Pancevo and Vrsac, and the other from Belgrade towards Zrenjanin and Kikinda, towards Romania, the route Vrbas-Sombor, as well as the railway leading to Bosut on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, and from Kraljevo to Kosovo and Metohija, the Minister said.
When it comes to harmonising Serbian legislation with EU regulations on transport, Vesic emphasised that Serbia will soon adopt six laws, after which our laws will be fully harmonised with the Union and there will no longer have any regulations that will be different.
We will be able to open and close Chapters 14 and 21, which deal with transport, without any problems. To our mutual satisfaction, I think that we have made good progress and that we can expect new joint projects, he said.
Yesterday, the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure talked in Brussels with European Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean.
