Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikola Selakovic and Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Peter Szijjarto signed in Subotica today the Agreement between the governments of Serbia and Hungary regulating border control in road, rail and water transport.

Speaking at a press conference after a meeting with Szijjarto, Selakovic underlined that the signing of this agreement will contribute greatly to reducing traffic jams at our border crossings.
The Minister explained that the signing of the agreement is conditioned by a development project between Hungary and Serbia, and that is construction of a fast railway between Belgrade and Budapest.
He recalled that the Memorandum of understanding on continuation of cooperation in the field of energy was signed on 10 June, which involves storing 500 million cubic metres of gas in Hungary, which will help Serbia overcome the energy crisis more easily in the period from 1 October of this year to 1 April of next year.
Selakovic said that he also discussed with Szijjarto the further development of economic cooperation, as well as engagement in regional infrastructure projects.
According to him, Serbia and Hungary have seriously deepened economic cooperation this year, which exceeded that of last year, which was at record level.
The Serbian Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined that economic and trade exchange between the two countries in the first five months of this year has already reached €1.8 billion.
Szijjarto underlined that the friendship between the two countries is historic and that new chapters of cooperation are being written every day and added that trade exchange has been doubled in the first half of this year.
The biggest undertaking is modernisation of the Belgrade-Budapest railway. The works in Serbia will start on 1 August, which means that we will have to find a new border crossing for railway traffic, where we will be able to provide conditions for international traffic of goods, the Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs said.
According to him, the railway freight traffic will pass through Roszke, where border control of international rail traffic will be conducted.
