The Serbian government announced today that during the first five months of this year, 70.8 percent more tourists arrived in Serbia than in the same period last year, with 156.2 percent of foreign tourists more and domestic by 38.4 percent more.
In May 2022 alone, there was an increase of 86 percent in the total number of tourist arrivals; the increase of 51 percent was realised by domestic tourists, while the number of arrivals of foreign citizens increased by 165 percent.
According to data from the e-Tourist portal, which is the central information system in the field of catering and tourism of the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, a total of 1,328,902 tourists visited Serbia from 1 January to 31 May this year, of whom 547,589 were foreign and 781,313 domestic.
A total of 4,402,878 overnight stays in the Republic of Serbia were recorded, which is an increase of 56.6 percent compared to 2021. The increase of 31 percent (2,541,168 overnight stays) was realised by domestic citizens, while the number of realised overnight stays of foreign citizens increased by 113.6 percent (1,861,710 overnight stays).
In the period from 1 May to 31 May this year, the total number of tourist arrivals in Serbia amounted to 377,197, which is an increase of 86 percent compared to 2021. 211,592 domestic (51 percent growth) and 165,605 foreign tourists (165 percent growth) were recorded.
Such a strong growth of our tourism economy is the result of huge investments of the state in road and other infrastructure, as well as private investors in accommodation facilities.
Renovations and reconstructions of fortresses on the Danube, archaeological sites and cultural institutions make more and more destinations in our country very attractive for both domestic and foreign tourists.
The strategic approach of the state to the development of more and more cities and regions in Serbia, such as Vrnjacka Banja, Vrdnik and Ovcar and Kablar Gorge, as well as their good promotion, greatly enriches the tourist offer of our country.
