Cooperation with Italy in field of defence improved

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojsa Stefanovic received today Italian Ambassador to Serbia Carlo Lo Cascio on a farewell visit and thanked him on his personal efforts and engagement on the improvement of cooperation in the field of defence between Serbia and Italy, which follows the development of overall bilateral relations which are characterised by a strong strategic partnership.

Stefanovic recalled that a large number of activities of bilateral military cooperation have been realised in the previous period, including two visits of Italian Minister of Defence Lorenzo Guerini to Serbia in December 2020 and March 2022.

The Deputy Prime Minister underlined that cooperation in the field of defence will continue its upward trend through realisation of activities in the key areas, such as military military, military economic, military education and military medical cooperation, as well as through joint participation in multinational operations.

Ambassador Lo Cascio said that a stable basis for improvement of cooperation in all areas has been built at high-level meetings and highlighted the interest of the Italian side in deepening bilateral military cooperation, for which there is considerable potential.

Italy will continue to be a friend and partner of the Republic of Serbia, Ambassador Lo Cascio said and voiced special support to Serbia in the process of European integration, according to a statement from the Ministry of Defence.
