These results will be one of the elements necessary for the tenth quarterly report concerning the degree to which Serbia-Montenegro has fulfilled its obligations toward the Council of Europe. Stojkovic pointed out at the meeting that the first draft of the strategy for reformation of the judiciary has been completed, with incorporated European standards in organisation and functioning of the judiciary. The strategy is aimed at reducing corruption and enabling greater efficiency and professionalism of courts.
Stojkovic added that the Ministry of Justice will present the text of the strategy to the public next week. After the presentation, the text will be sent out for public discussion.
The minister especially emphasised the importance of the existence of political will in the Serbian government to fight corruption. Therefore, he informed the CoE delegation of the completion of the action plan and bill on the independent body for fight against corruption, which will enter the parliament at its regular spring session.
Stojkovic pointed to the efforts of the Ministry of Justice in providing a greater number of judiciary councils and prosecutors for conducting proceedings against war crime indictees in domestic courts.
Scheuer stressed that the CoE is impressed with the number of laws in the judiciary sector that have been adopted in the past period and announced this institution's readiness to continue to aid and fully support reformation of the Serbian judiciary, especially when it comes to training judges for implementation of newly adopted laws.
