Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojsa Stefanovic met today with Deputy Commander of the European Command of the United States Armed Forces Lieutenant General Michael Howard, who is in our country as part of delegation of US Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Asia Karen Donfried.

Substantial bilateral cooperation with United States in field of defence

Stefanovic and Howard agreed that bilateral cooperation in the field of defence is meaningful, that it is on an upward path and that its effects are visible, as well as that it follows the strategic development of political and economic relations between the two countries.
He expressed gratitude to the United States for its continuous support to Serbia on its path to full membership in the EU, stating that this is our country's foreign policy priority.
He also stated that the Republic of Serbia respects international law in principle and supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine, but also that it has not imposed sanctions on the Russian Federation because it is guided by its own interests.
Howard also assessed that the relations between our countries are progressing and expressed hope that bilateral cooperation will continue to rise in the coming period.
