Serbia wants to enter EU in order to secure better life of citizens

Belgrade/Budva, 7 December 2021

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence Nebojsa Stefanovic stated today at a press conference in Budva that Serbia and other states of the Western Balkans want to become members of the European Union first and foremost in order to reach standards that guarantee a better quality of life for citizens.

Stefanovic attended a ministerial roundtable meeting dedicated to the position of women in armed forces in the Western Balkans.

He said that regional cooperation is very important to us and that we are trying to achieve with all countries from this part of Europe such a level of communication and cooperation that is in the best interest of our armies and states.

The topic of gender equality plays an important role in that. Women must be an important part of our defence systems and their participation must not be formal and at the level of pure statistics, but essential, Stefanovic underlined.

The Joint Declaration on Support to Gender Equality in the Reform of the Defence Sector in the Western Balkans was signed at this event, at which Serbia, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Bosnia and Herzegovina took part.

The signatories agreed to cooperate on concrete activities and projects of common interest regarding the promotion of diversity and the principle of gender equality.
