Numerous potentials for strengthening cultural ties with Hungary

Budapest/Belgrade, 8 September 2021

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Culture and Information Maja Gojkovic talked in Budapest with Minister of Human Resources of Hungary Miklos Kashler about improving cooperation in the field of culture, protection of cultural heritage and film industry.

The meeting was held within the framework of today's sixth joint session of the governments of Serbia and Hungary.

Gojkovic pointed out that due to the geographical closeness and tradition of relations between our peoples, we can work together to make culture one of the most developed segments of cooperation.

Kashler also expressed readiness to develop relations in culture, having in mind numerous potentials and a long tradition of connections in art, mutual knowledge of the Serbian and Hungarian people, as well as life in the same region.

At the meeting, an agreement was reached on better connection of cultural institutions of Serbia and Hungary and preservation of places important for the common history, and the possibility of cooperation in the field of film industry was discussed.

The ministers discussed the protection and preservation of cultural heritage, especially in the field of intangible cultural heritage, as well as within UNESCO, bearing in mind that Serbia accepted Hungary's initiative to start drafting a multinational nomination for bagpipe practice for the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
