Permanent campaign against corruption in judiciary under way

Serbian Minister of Justice Zoran Stojkovic said today that he was not surprised by the arrests among top officials of the judiciary, and added that this is just a first step in fighting corruption in the judicial system.

During a break of the parliament session, Stojkovic stressed that a permanent campaign to end corruption once and for all is under way, though he did not say whether there will be more arrests of judiciary officials.
He recalled that as soon as he was made Minister of Justice, he pointed out the problem of corruption, and that up to now dozens of procedures against bribed judges, or those who violated the law in some other way, have begun.
Stojkovic added that he expects that the fight against corruption in the judiciary will continue, and said this matter will be dealt with in a relatively short period of time through changes in the structure of legislature and improvements in the financial situation of the judiciary.
While composing a national strategy for fighting corruption, the Ministry is simultaneously working on action programmes for its implementation, he concluded.
