At a joint press conference with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Hungary Peter Szijjártó, Dacic expressed gratitude for the support that the country provided to Serbia when it comes to donations, but also in the process of evacuating Serbian citizens during the pandemic.
He said that Szijjártó is always a dear guest in Serbia and that he is the greatest advocate of its views at all EU meetings, which speaks of the high level of relations between the two countries, built by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
According to him, the topics of the meeting with Szijjártó were organising a joint session of the governments of the two countries, signing a strategic partnership agreement, but also providing mutual support in countries where the two countries do not have diplomatic missions.
Szijjártó said that the period during the pandemic showed that Serbs and Hungarians were part of the EU, and that they managed to strengthen relations in that period, to help each other in the return of citizens who found themselves abroad and to open border crossings between the two countries, although Serbia is not an EU member state.
Strengthening economic relations is in the interest of both countries, he said, pointing out the importance of the strategic position of our countries.
According to him, it is very important that we connect the West with the East, and we should focus on large infrastructure projects and profit from our geostrategic position.
He reminded of the construction of the Budapest-Belgrade railway, emphasising that it is very important that Hungary will be supplied with gas coming from Turkey via Serbia.
Last year's exchange between the two countries, as he stated, amounted to €2.5 billion, and Hungarian companies invested nine billion forints in Serbia in the fields of agriculture and food industry.
Also, as he mentioned, Hungary provided the companies of that country with a fund with a budget in the amount of HUF 25 billion for investing abroad, including Serbia.
This practically means that we will cover 60% of investments for those Hungarian companies that want to invest in Serbia, Szijjártó explained.
