First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic made a one-day visit to the Republic of Italy today, where he spoke with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Luigi Di Maio in Rome.
Dacic underlined that he is very pleased that his first visit, after the relaxation of restrictions imposed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is to Italy precisely and added that this visit is a confirmation of a great friendship and respect between the two countries.
I wish to extend on behalf of Serbia, President Aleksandar Vucic, Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and my own behalf deep condolences to the families of the victims of coronavirus and to say that these difficult moments have made our peoples closer, through humanity and solidarity, the First Deputy Prime Minister stated.
He said that Italy is a friendly country to Serbia and expressed gratitude on the assistance and support in the process of European integration.
We would like Italy to be the ambassador of Serbia and our path to the EU in the true sense of that word, Dacic stated.
He said that he spoke with Di Maio about bilateral relations between the two countries, about the need for the continuation of organisation of bilateral activities, including a meeting of the two governments which should be held by the end of the year.
Dacic added that he also spoke with his Italian counterpart about economic cooperation, as well as the need for recovery of the economies of both countries.
Speaking about what perhaps interests our citizens the most, which is the opening of borders for travellers, he recalled that Serbia has already allowed the entry of Italian citizens into our country, without mandatory tests or quarantine and isolation.
We expect Italy to make a similar decision for our citizens in line, of course, with general decisions of the EU, the First Deputy Prime Minister underlined.
He said that according to the news from Brussels, it can be expected that as of 1 July the EU issues a recommendation to all Member States that citizens from the Western Balkans can travel to the EU, adding that more information on that is expected in the coming days.
