First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic said today that the Serbian government made a decision to allow free border passage for people living in border areas who work or whose country is across the border.
Dacic, who will speak with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto at the Horgos border crossing tomorrow, said to the Tanjug agency that the issue has been resolved primarily because of Hungary, but will also apply to all border areas with other countries.
He said that he will speak with his Hungarian counterpart about the bilateral relations between Serbia and Hungary, as well as the period following the epidemic, relations in the EU, Serbia as a candidate country, as well as about the specific issue related to passenger traffic with our country.
According to Dacic, a full opening of borders is not on the agenda yet, but it is one of the topics for discussion to see what the plans are.
The European Union, despite trying to have one common roadmap for relaxing measures, does not have an official common policy. This is likely to be based on different estimates. They announced that they would first open passenger traffic within the EU, but it is yet to be seen how long these restrictions will remain in place, Dacic said.
