Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Nebojsa Stefanovic stated today in Berlin that the relentless fight against all forms of crime occupies one of the highest positions on the Serbian government's agenda.
At a high-level meeting under the French-German initiative to implement the Road Map for the Comprehensive Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons in the Western Balkans, Stefanovic underlined that Serbia has been recognised as a reliable international partner in this field by numerous countries from Europe and the world.
According to him, the fact that the crime rate is continuously decreasing illustrates the best the efforts that the Serbian institutions have invested in this fight.
He stressed that membership in the European Union is Serbia's strategic commitment, emphasising that our country is trying to develop strong and standardised mechanisms for reducing the amount of illegal weapons in accordance with the European security policy.
In 2019, 15,430 weapons were destroyed, making Serbia the absolute leader in the region. Also, 1,680 weapons, 30,960 pieces of ammunition, 133 explosives, 47 kilograms of explosives and two rocket launchers were seized, Stefanovic said.
