The Serbian government adopted today the Bill on the origin of assets and special tax and sent it to the Parliament for adoption.
This legal solution is a means of pursuing state policy - by standardising a procedure that will determine the origin of assets and a special tax, thereby achieving obvious fiscal and significant non-fiscal goals.
The enactment of this law specifies and directs the general social objective of taxation, which is to reduce the difference in the material and social status of taxpayers, and to mitigate the difference between taxpayers whose assets correspond to the income they generate and those whose assets are disproportionate to their earnings.
The proposed legal solutions apply to all citizens, thus excluding any possible selectivity in their application.
These solutions will affect the most those with the biggest disparity between income and assets.
The proposed law is of utmost importance for the prevention of corruption and there is no time limit for its implementation.
In this way, the state receives an effective mechanism to identify illegal acquisition of wealth of everyone at any time.
This shows the preventive side of the law, because everyone should know that it will be very easy to determine whether their property is legal or a product of corruption and abuse.
On the other hand, this law also has a mechanism for confiscating illegally acquired assets.
The Serbian government also adopted the Artificial Intelligence Development Strategy in the Republic of Serbia for the period from 2020 to 2025, which sets goals and measures for the development of artificial intelligence, the implementation of which will result in economic growth, improvement of public services and scientific staff and development of skills for jobs of the future.
By adopting and implementing this strategy, Serbia will be positioned as the leader of the region in the development of artificial intelligence, which can improve both the efficiency of public administration and the quality of services provided by the state to citizens and the economy.
Serbia, as a participant in the European Union's Framework Programme for Research and Innovation, seeks to align with the EU, which will allow full integration into the European Research Area and closer cooperation.
