First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic said today that it is of priority importance for Serbia to establish better relations with the Netherlands, as an important economic partner of our country.
Dacic said at a joint press conference with Dutch Foreign Minister Stef Blok that in the last eight years the most investments in Serbia came from that country, with more than 15,000 employees working in Dutch firms.
He expressed gratitude for the support that the Netherlands is providing to our country's European integration, noting that Serbia is implementing reforms for the sake of its citizens, not just in order to meet the accession requirements.
The First Deputy Prime Minister said that he also spoke with Blok about the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and he underlined that Serbia wants a compromise solution to this problem, in which there will be no winners and that will satisfy everyone.
If that is not the case, there is no pressure under which we will yield to accepting something that is not principled, Dacic said, pointing out that Belgrade is not to blame for the stalemate in the dialogue, but Pristina.
Blok pointed out that the Netherlands believes Serbia has much to offer to the European Union and added that his country supports Serbia on its path to the EU, but at the same time believes that the state must be ready for accession.
We therefore insist that all reforms and all rules are respected. Much has been done in Serbia, and we expect further progress in the field of the the rule of law, the fight against corruption and freedom of the media, he said.
According to Blok, reforms in the Serbian economy are producing impressive results, and this is reflected in the trade exchange between Serbia and the Netherlands, which has increased by seven to 10 percent and amounts to around €700 million.
