Strengthening constrictive political dialogue with United States

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic met today with new US Ambassador to Serbia Anthony Godfrey.

During the talks, they expressed mutual readiness to continue working on areas of common interest with the aim of strengthening the relations between the two countries, as well as on strengthening constructive and dynamic political dialogue.

It was emphasised that the practice of highlighting positive examples of historical alliance, such as last year's commemoration of the 100th anniversary of raising the Serbian flag at the White House, as well as other examples of the alliance of our two countries during the two world wars and throughout history, should be continued.

After the meeting, Dacic and Godfrey solemnly laid the American flag at the Museum of Serbian Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was flown on the White House 100 years ago along with the Serbian flag. It was the first time that a flag of another country was flown on the White House.

Dacic presented documents symbolising some of the most significant moments in the history of the two countries' relations, including a telegram that President Wilson sent to Prime Minister Nikola Pasic expressing his admiration for the brave Serbian people for heroism during World War I.
