First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic met today with United Nations Regional Population Fund (UNFPA) Regional Director for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Alanna Armitage.
At a meeting with Armitage, who on behalf of UNFPA Executive Director and UN Under Secretary Natalia Kanem attends the 141st session of the Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Belgrade, Dacic expressed satisfaction with the activities of the UNFPA Office in Serbia to date.
He explained that this is especially true in the area of reproductive health and rights, policies and programmes targeting youth, programmes promoting gender equality and women's empowerment, as well as activities focused on population issues and trends.
The First Deputy Prime Minister expressed his readiness for further cooperation, bearing in mind the importance of UNFPA themes and goals, and congratulated on the occasion of the jubilees - 50 years since the establishment of the UNFPA and 25 years since the first International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD).
Armitage announced the global ICPD25 + Summit - Nairobi Summit on ICPD25, to be held in Nairobi in November, as well as the Regional Conference on Population Dynamics, Human Capital and Sustainable Development in Southeast Europe, which is taking place in Sarajevo next week.
