Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met today with Portuguese Minister of Defence Luis Amado. During the meeting, Kostunica pointed to the problems in Kosovo-Metohija, mainly the difficult position of the Serb population in the province, who have been denied their basic human rights.
Kostunica said that stability in the region must be kept in mind when seeking solutions for Kosovo-Metohija problems and he stressed that a solution must be sought through dialogue and within the existing borders of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro.
Amado said that the situation in Kosovo-Metohija is very complex and he stressed that the EU must pay more attention to the province and to stability in the Balkans.
Amado also said that Portugal’s government is interested in boosting ties with Serbia-Montenegro, primarily economic relations. He stressed that Portugal supports Serbia-Montenegro’s European integration and he added that the country’s future is in the EU.
