First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic spoke today with Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and UNMIK Chief Zahir Tanin about the current delicate situation in Kosovo-Metohija.
During the talks with Tanin, who is on a regular visit to Belgrade ahead of the next UN Security Council session dedicated to the work of UNMIK, Dacic highlighted the importance of continuing the mission's undiminished presence and work in the province for creating conditions for a normal and dignified life for Serbs and members of other non-Albanian communities in Kosovo-Metohija, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
He also underlined the importance of continuous analysis of the Kosovo issue at UN Security Council sessions, given the complex political and security situation in the province.
The two officials also discussed a series of provocative and one-sided moves that the Pristina side has taken in the previous period, which are contrary to the spirit of dialogue and further increase tensions.
It was estimated that the forthcoming UN Security Council session, to be held in October, will be an opportunity to discuss all current problems in Kosovo-Metohija, as well as how UNMIK and other international missions in the province can contribute to stabilising the situation.
Dacic expressed special gratitude to his interlocutor for the efforts made so far to implement UNMIK's mandate and voiced expectation that this mission will continue to operate at full capacity in the future, in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244.
