Mihajlovic signed the agreements together with Sector Director for Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Croatia and the Western Balkans of the European Investment Bank Miguel Morgado, Minister for European Integration Jadranka Joksimovic and Assistant Director of the "Corridors of Serbia" Dusan Puric.
This project is important not only because of Serbia's economic development and connecting citizens in several districts, but also politically, for the sake of stability in the region, Mihajlovic said.
She added that the Serbian government is committed to connecting with the region and cooperation, and that construction of six new motorways will start this and next year.
Joksimovic said with this act we show that we are an active part of the trans-European network and connections, which will lead to a greater economic growth, new jobs and better connectivity.
European Commissioner for Transport Violeta Bulc congratulated Serbia and all participants on this project, saying that today’s signing of the agreements on financing the construction of the motorway is a major step towards connecting the region.
Morgado said the EIB will continue to support Serbia in order to improve ties within the country, the region and with the EU.
The route of the future motorway from Nis to Merdare is 77 km long.
