Dacic, Palmer discuss situation in region

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic met today, on the sidelines of the Bled Strategic Forum, with US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and newly appointed Special Representative for the Western Balkans Matthew Palmer.

Dacic told reporters that the meeting focused on the priorities of Palmer's future work as Special Representative for the Western Balkans and underlined that Serbia will be a constructive partner.

He and Palmer analysed the prospects of the situation in the entire region, starting with the situation in Bosnia-Herzegovina, the possibility of opening EU accession negotiations with North Macedonia and Albania and whether "Kosovo" will get visa liberalisation.

Belgrade-Pristina relations were also discussed, Dacic said and voiced hope that after the elections, the new government in Kosovo-Metohija will abolish tariffs and open space for the continuation of dialogue.

The First Deputy Prime Minister said that the meeting with Palmer was very positive and voiced the expectation that the US diplomat will play a positive role in starting the dialogue.

He noted that it is also necessary to wait for the election of a new EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, which opens the possibility for the dialogue to continue, but it is not realistic to expect that to happen before the formation of the government in Pristina.
