Focus on finding compromise, sustainable solution for Kosovo

First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told today in New York that the Community of Serbian Municipalities in Kosovo must be formed in accordance with the Brussels Agreement, its principles and implementation plan.

Dacic assessed that Pristina does not have a genuine intention to fulfill its obligations under the Brussels Agreement, but to violate it in the worst way.

Therefore, it is important that the Security Council has a unique position today that the formation of the Community of Serbian Municipalities can no longer be awaited for, he said.

He also warned that only three registered non-Albanians return to Kosovo in the previous three months, which is a proof of the necessity of UNMIK existence.

At the same time, he supported the invitation of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres for a thorough investigation of the 26 March event, when Marko Djuric, the Head of the Office for Kosovo-Metohija, was arrested, stating that it is necessary "to take appropriate corrective measures in case of non-respect of human rights".

What is needed is that everything agreed is carried out without additional conditioning and that solutions for all outstanding issues can be solved exclusively through dialogue, Dacic repeated, stating that the situation in Kosovo is still unstable and that the international presence is still more than necessary.

He criticised the members of the UN Security Council asking for a change in the form in which sessions on Kosovo are held, with the assessment that efforts to reduce UNMIK and its budget, change its mandate etc. "do not in any way contribute to creating a favorable climate for achieving these goals".

For that reason, I would like to once again appeal to all of you that we focus on finding a compromise and sustainable solution for this millennium problem, so that the entire Western Balkans will finally become a place of lasting peace, stability, security and trust, he concluded.
