First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic and Speaker of the Parliament of Sri Lanka Karu Jayasuriya discussed today the possibilities of improving the bilateral relations of the two countries, especially of parliamentary cooperation.

The two officials noted that Serbia and Sri Lanka have traditionally friendly relations, based on the Non-Aligned Movement, which are still in place.
Also, they expressed mutual desire and readiness to take concrete steps to promote the parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
Dacic expressed his gratitude to his interlocutor for Sri Lanka's position regarding the non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo, as well as the hope that this position, based on international law, will be retained in the future.
Jayasuriya stressed that Sri Lanka attaches great importance to parliamentary diplomacy.
He expressed the willingness to come to an official visit to Serbia and sent an invitation to Speaker of the Serbian parliament Maja Gojkovic to visit Sri Lanka.
