First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic met today with Ambassador of Israel to Serbia Alona Fisher Kamm, on the occasion of preparations for marking the 70th anniversary of the declaration of the State of Israel and pointed to the historical ties between the two nations.
The occasion for the meeting was also the memory of the important centenary of the Serbs and Jews - when Serbia as the first country in the world recognised the Balfour Declaration and first called the future state by the name of Israel as early as 1917, recognizing that this is the path to the establishment of the state of the Jewish nation, as well as of the end of the Great War, in order to further intensify friendship and understanding of Serbia and Israel, for the benefit of the two nations.
Dacic underlined that Serbia has always supported and understood the Jewish people, who unselfishly laid down their lives for the freedom of the Serbian people in the First and Second Balkan War, as well as in the First and Second World War.
