Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic assessed today, at the opening of the two-day conference on international railway regulation "EUMedRail" that Serbia is on the right path to the development of the railway and harmonisation of regulations with the EU.
Speaking to reporters before the meeting, Mihajlovic explained that the goal of the state is to harmonise laws and procedures with those of the EU in order to make Serbia's railways efficient and rail companies profitable.
According to her, in the past years the state has been dealing with investments and laws in parallel, and the harmonisation of its regulations with European standards and that is why the situation in the railway transport sector is better than the previous years.
Secretary General of the Intergovernmental Organisation for International Carriage by Rail (OTIF) Francois Davenne pointed out that the connection of railways in the European Union is very important, stressing that Serbia is an important and active member of this organisation.
Policy Officer at the European Commission Bertrand Collignon estimated that our country has shown a significant degree of harmonisation of regulations in the area of rail transport with EU acquis.
