Speaking about the criteria and process of joining Interpol at the session of the General Assembly of that organisation, Stefanovic pointed to the fact that so far no geographic entity that falls under the regime of international administration has become a member of Interpol.
Interpol should avoid any politicisation of its work, which is strictly prohibited by the Constitution of this organisation. Referring to membership in the United Nations is the only completely safe way to determine the status of the state and to avoid the trap of politicisation, the Deputy Prime Minister pointed out.
The Deputy Prime Minister stressed that any form of possible interpretation of the existing Interpol documents "in favour" of receiving territories of undefined or disputed status, such as entities subject to an international regime of administration or whose final status is not resolved, would constitute a dangerous precedent and threat to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the member states.
