Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic met today with Governor of the Chinese province Zhejiang Yuan Jiajun to discuss the improvement of economic cooperation and the plans of businessmen and the province to invest in Serbia.
Jiajun conveyed to Ljajic the intention of the province to start the construction of a new film city in Belgrade, given the great experience of this province in this area and the fact that it produces 40% of the total annual film production in China.
He also said that businessmen from the province of Zhejiang plan to make the trade centre "Belmax" in New Belgrade a distribution centre for Chinese trade for Southeast Europe.
As he explained, this means modernisation of the "Belmax" centre and expansion of its capabilities in the field of agriculture and information and communication technologies.
Ljajic stressed that in this way, more direct contact between businessmen from Serbia and China would be established, as more than 50% of Serbian-Chinese trade is currently going through third countries.
The officials agreed to sign an agreement on economic and trade cooperation between Serbia and the province of Zhejiang in September that would define areas with the greatest potential for further improvement.
The province of Zhejiang has about 60 million inhabitants and is considered one of the areas with the most developed economy in China.
