Bilateral meetings of Dacic in Nicosia

Belgrade/Nicosia, 19 May 2017

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic and Secretary General of the Council of Europe Torbjorn Jagland expressed today in Nicosia satisfaction with the cooperation between Serbia and the Council of Europe and supported its continuation.

During this meeting that took place on the sidelines of the 127th ministerial meeting of the Council of Europe, the situation in the region was also discussed.

In this regard, serious concern was expressed at the rise in nationalistic rhetoric, especially on the Albanian side, and the continuation of the status-neutral engagement of the Council of Europe in Kosovo-Metohija was supported, in accordance with Resolution 1244 of the UN Security Council.

Dacic also met with Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Peter Szijjarto and in a friendly talk they exchanged opinions on cooperation on the bilateral and multilateral plans between the two countries.

In terms of bilateral cooperation, they spoke about cooperation in the field of energy in the context of signing certain agreements in that field.

The two officials also exchanged opinions on the situation in the region and expressed worry over statements of Albanian representatives on the creation of a so-called Greater Albania, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
