First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic and Director-General of the Department of Consular Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Guo Shaochun expressed hope today that consular relations will continue to follow and support the trend of development of political and economic cooperation.
During the meeting it was noted that the Agreement on mutual abolition of visas for citizens of both countries, which came into force on 15 January this year, is another confirmation of the strategic relationship and opens the possibility for further promotion of all forms of current and new areas of cooperation.
In addition to the meeting which the delegation of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs had with Dacic, consular consultations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Serbia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China at the level of Deputy Ministers for Consular Affairs were also held at the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs today.
The practice of alternate holding of consular consultations on an annual basis has been established in order to improve cooperation and have a regular exchange of experiences in the consular area, particularly in relation to the provision of consular protection to citizens in emergency and disaster situations.
The two officials highlighted the need of focusing on the modernisation of consular work and continued raising of the quality of consular protection and services.
The consular relations between Serbia and China have been evaluated positively.
Consular consultations were substantial and in the spirit of friendly relations and both sides expressed their readiness for further improvement of consular cooperation between the two countries, according to a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
