Austria’s continued support to European integration of Serbia

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic said today that the European Commission report on Serbia's progress evaluates in a positive way the results our country has achieved, expressing the hope that the negotiation process with the EU will be completed by 2020.

Dacic told reporters in Vienna on the eve of his meeting with Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz that Serbia is grateful to Austria for its support.

It is indisputable that our strategic goal is to join the EU and we will try that more chapters be opened until the end of the year, and that our negotiation process is completed by 2020, he reiterated.

Serbia is oriented towards the policy of regional peace and stability, Dacic underlined, adding that Belgrade is trying to pursue a policy of reconciliation with Kosovo, but also to strengthen relations with its neighbours and with EU countries.

Kurz said that Austria will continue to support Serbia's path towards the European Union and voiced hope that more chapters in the negotiations will be opened this year.

Serbia and Austria are friends, but also important partners, he said and congratulated Serbia on the report of the European Union which positively assesses the progress towards the EU.
