Mihajlovic said at the event, which will last until 4 November, that the state has passed all the necessary legislation and created the conditions for green building, but that there is still a lot of work in this area.
Not only new buildings should have energy passports, but old ones that are being reconstructed too, she noted, and explained that green building does not only mean complying with the standards, but also having a better quality of life, lower consumption of resources and preservation of the environment in which we live.
In Serbia, three times more energy per square metre is consumed than in the EU, Mihajlovic pointed out and stressed that we need to learn from those who in that area progressed faster than us.
We should send out a message that the United States is a friend and partner in our bilateral and economic relations, as well as Italy and other EU countries. We need to consider ways to make our relations in this segment even better, the Deputy Prime Minister said.
US Ambassador to Serbia Kyle Scott recalled that the United States has the Council of green buildings that deals with the certification of facilities by leading LEED standards, which are very important for green building and ecology.
He pointed out that the building of the Embassy of the United States in Belgrade is one of the first buildings in Serbia that is fully structured by the system of green building, which applies ecological systems, use of recycled materials and purified water that goes into drains.
Italian Ambassador to Serbia Giuseppe Manzo expressed his satisfaction that the sponsor of the fair is Italy, which not only supports Serbia on its path towards the EU, but also in the field of green building and environmental protection, which is a very important area for the European integration of Serbia.
He expressed gratitude to Serbia and its people for support to the Italian people following the recent earthquake.
