Witold Waszczykowski, left, and Ivica Dacic at today's press conference
With its experiences Poland can help Serbia overcome potential problems as easily as possible, Dacic and Waszczykowski told a press conference after a meeting.
Poland is backing Serbia's ambition to join the EU as soon as possible, Dacic said adding that Poland is an important partner for Serbia and that the two countries should implement an agreement on establishing special ties, proposed by Waszczykowski to Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic earlier today.
According to Dacic, Poland will receive €105 billion in grants from the last budget of the European Union for the period from 2014 to 2020, which will contribute to its accelerated development.
Since becoming an EU member, Poland increased its GDP by 50%, Dacic noted.
Poland is an example of how a country can best use an opportunity for economic development and better life for citizens, Dacic added.
He also recalled that the foreign trade of Serbia and Poland amounts to about €1 billion, and added that it could be even greater, and announced a business forum, to be organised soon.
He pointed out that some of the previous Polish governments recognised the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo, but that Poland has not yet established diplomatic relations with Pristina.
According to Dacic, Poland has also acknowledged the views of Serbia pertaining to the destruction of Orthodox heritage in Kosovo-Metohija and thus deeply respected Serbia, unlike some of the neighbouring countries.
Serbia has a friend in Poland, which has many positive experiences from the transition and the negotiations with the EU, and we want to share all those experiences with you, Waszczykowski said.
