First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic said today, following the news that Suriname has recognised the independence of Kosovo, that this is due to great pressure exerted by sponsors of Kosovo's independence on countries that have not yet recognised it, especially after their defeat in UNESCO.
Dacic said in a written statement that all countries that do that should be aware that this is an act against the territorial integrity of Serbia, which threatens the dialogue in Brussels too.
Here it is not about Suriname, but about the fact that without Serbia’s knowledge an immense pressure is made by certain influential countries to make others recognise Kosovo, which will definitely leave a mark on our bilateral relations with these countries, he stressed.
Dacic specified that Suriname is the 106th country to recognise the independence of Kosovo and not the 111st, as President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci said.
The Serbian government will continue its principled policy of resolving all outstanding issues through dialogue, but it will never recognise the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo because it is totally contrary to international law, he concluded.
