Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic spoke today with Head of the Mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) James Roaf, as part of the revision of arrangement with that international financial institution.
According to a statement of the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Roaf underlined that the IMF is encouraged by the results achieved in the Serbian Railways, and expressed the belief that this can become a model for the reform of other public companies.
Head of the World Bank (WB) Office in Serbia Tony Verheijen praised the progress achieved to date.
The topics of the meeting with representatives of the IMF, the World Bank and the EBRD were reform of the Serbian Railways and development of the project of modernisation of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, road infrastructure projects, including the rehabilitation of roads in Serbia, Serbia's progress on the Doing Business list of the World Bank and reform of the cadastre.
The plans for further reform of the Serbian Railways were presented to officials of the world’s financial institutions, as well as the results achieved so far.
Mihajlovic informed the officials of the IMF, World Bank and EBRD that the road infrastructure projects are being implemented on schedule, and that the successful reform in the construction industry has had multiple effects on the overall economy.
As a result, the share of the construction industry in GDP grew from 4.1% in 2014 to 5.1% in 2016.
At the same time, she pointed out, the reform of the cadastre started, which is equally important so that the system could be fully functional.
This will additionally improve Serbia’s ranking on the World Bank’s Doing Business list, the Minister concluded.
