Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Administration and Local Self-Government Kori Udovicki welcomed the consensus of the Member States of the European Union on the fulfillment of the criteria by Serbia for the opening of chapters 23 and 24 in the negotiations on Serbia's accession to the EU.
In a written statement Udovicki said that the decision to open the chapter is recognition and a challenge for Serbian society in its effort to build the highest standards of respect for human rights, democracy and the rule of law.
She stressed that the decision is the culmination of a successful cooperation between several government bodies, representatives of national councils of national minorities, civil society and the international community that have participated in the development of a comprehensive action plan, which includes an Action plan for improving the position of national minorities.
At the meeting of EU member state ambassadors in Brussels, an agreement was reached yesterday on fulfillment of the criteria for the opening of Chapter 23 of the negotiations with Serbia.
