Government to help rehabilitate St. Sava church in New York

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic visited yesterday the Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of St. Sava in New York destroyed in a fire and expressed solidarity of all citizens and the state of Serbia over this tragic event.

Dacic, who is on a working visit to New York, pointed out that an investigation into what had caused the fire in the church is still underway, stressing that the Serb community will insist on establishing the full truth about what had happened.
Besides the money, which they will probably get from insurance companies, we will, through diplomatic channels, insist and ask from the City of New York to assist in the reconstruction, or in building a new church, since this building is a cultural treasure, more than a century old, said Dacic.
Dacic confirmed that, in consultation with Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic, he is authorised to confirm that the Serbian government will help rehabilitate the church.
The restoration of the church is very important to the Serb community in New York, as well as to our togetherness and the Serbian spirit, said Dacic.
