Dacic said after a meeting with Foreign Minister of Ethiopia Tedros Adhanomon, at a joint press conference at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, that Serbia will also support the candidacy of the representative of Ethiopia for the position of Director General of the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Dacic thanked the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia for the principled position of his country regarding the non-recognition of Kosovo's independence, for voting against Kosovo's membership in UNESCO and the traditionally friendly relations with Serbia.
Ethiopia is a great friend of Serbia and the former Yugoslavia. We are grateful to her for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, Dacic added.
According to him, the bilateral relations between the two countries are good but could be better as some problem from the past still remain related to debts and unrealised projects, and it is also necessary to solve the problem of embassy of Ethiopia in Belgrade.
He said that Ethiopia is one of the crucial African countries with which Serbia tries to have very close relations.
We are linked by great friendship from the time of Yugoslav president Josip Broz Tito. Ethiopia is the first African country with which Yugoslavia established diplomatic relations after World War II, the First Deputy Prime Minister said.
Adhanomon highlighted the existence of strong bilateral relations between Serbia and Ethiopia and said that this special relationship should be cherished.
Regarding the issue of Kosovo-Metohija, he said that Ethiopia will continue to insist on the respect for international law.
Ethiopia sticks to its principled position on Kosovo's independence. We will continue to defend international law, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia stated.
The two ministers agreed that the establishment of a joint committee for economic cooperation can contribute to the strengthening of the traditionally good relations between Serbia and Ethiopia.
