Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic said today that the development of the automotive industry is important for economic growth, and estimated that in the future we can expect even better results when this industry is concerned.
Mihajlovic said at the opening of a regional forum on trends in the automotive industry "Autoforum 2016" that it is of crucial importance that cars are safe, environmentally friendly and consume less fuel.
She added that driver safety is of vital interest, which should be in line with European standards.
According to Mihajlovic, 37 million automobiles passed through Serbia last year, or two million more than 2014, which is a sign that Serbia is returning to the map of regional networking.
German Ambassador to Serbia Axel Dittmann Aksel Ditman said that the automotive industry is a key economic sector in Germany, where companies in this sector annually produce six million cars in Germany and an additional five million outside of Germany.
The auto industry is an important element of German economic cooperation with Serbia, he noted and recalled that German car companies invested in Serbia more than €100 million and created 11,000 jobs.
