Radisavljevic said at a special press conference in the Serbian government that former commander of the Special Operations Unit (JSO) Milorad Ulemek was the key witness in solving the case.
He said that in addition to Radonjic and Romic, other perpetrators include former head of the State Security Radomir Markovic, who is in jail and who directly ordered the murder, and operator of the State Security Miroslav Kurak, who is at large.
According to Radisavljevic, the police today submitted a report to the Prosecution, after which Radonjic and Romic were arrested in Belgrade on suspicion of involvement in Curuvija’s murder on 11 April 1999.
The Special Prosecutor for Organised Crime confirmed that buildings used by the Radonjic and Romic were raided, that the two suspects were taken to the prosecutor's office, and that their interrogation will begin soon.
The murderers of Slavko Curuvija were revealed thanks to evidence given by Milorad Ulemek, who decided to talk about the murder, Radisavljevic said adding that Ulemek’s testimony was unconditional and that he received no benefits.
Radisavljevic expressed hope that the investigation into this murder will be completed in two months, when the indictment will be raised.
First Deputy Prime Minister and coordinator of the Office for Coordination of Security Services Aleksandar Vucic said that there were two more witnesses besides Ulemek, but did not reveal their names because of the ongoing investigation.
He apologised to the family of Slavko Curuvija and Serbian citizens because they had to wait for 14 years to find out who committed this crime.
Crime and murders will never go unpunished, said Vucic and expressed gratitude to all who contributed to the resolution of this case – the President of the Republic of Serbia, the Commission to Investigate the Killings of Journalists, employees of the Security Intelligence Agency (BIA), Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Justice and Public Administration and Special Prosecutor's Office for Organised Crime.
