In an interview to Italian agency Ansa, on the eve of a joint session of the governments of Italy and Serbia which will be held in Ancona this week, Dacic expressed his gratitude to Italy for the continuous support it gives to Serbia in the process of European integration.
He said that Serbia is ready to develop the already excellent relations with Italy and that it expects Italy to help it promote her image in the world.
We expect Italy, which is our greatest friend of all Western countries, to promote the change in our image based on our internal reforms, progress in the European integration process, success in dialogue with Pristina and efforts at reconciliation in the region.
The Prime Minister voiced hope that Italy will help Serbia in the negotiations on EU accession and reiterated that Serbia fulfilled all conditions set by the EU and that it expects the date for the start of accession negotiations to be determined without any additional conditions.
Serbia does not want undeserved gifts. We have carried out internal reforms, launched dialogue with Pristina and we are working on the implementation of the agreements on Kosovo reached in Brussels, Dacic stated.
He highlighted Serbia’s new approach in solving problems and underlined that everyone should take into account the progress Serbia has made and not view it from the perspective of the past.
Speaking about austerity measures recently adopted by the Serbian government, Dacic said that their purpose is to create more favourable conditions for economic growth.
According to him, Serbia is satisfied with cooperation with Italy, which has become our biggest economic partner, exceeding the volume of cooperation which Serbia has with Germany and Russia.
Serbia is ready to develop cooperation with Italy in line with the agreement on strategic partnership signed in November 2009, Dacic stated.
He explained that the meeting in Ancona will deal with cooperation to date and future steps in the fields of politics, economy, fight against crime, defence, judiciary, energy, infrastructure and education.
Dacic told Italian investors that Serbia is a good place for investment, has a friendly climate and free trade agreements with many countries, including Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Turkey.
