Speaking at a press conference after the meeting with Strauss-Kahn, Vucic explained that a part of the team will work in Belgrade and a part in Paris, noting that these two parts of the team will have constant consultation.
He said that decisions will be made in the best interest for our country and emphasised that the government’s aim is to make a healthy economy based on profit, and not on state subsidies.
The First Deputy Prime Minister explained that the government discussed for a long time the possibility to hire foreign experts and it spoke with many foreign companies and specialists regarding their help in reducing Serbia’s fiscal deficit, huge public debt and a constant drop in production.
It is a fact that we have been spending much more than what we were earning, and the time has come to produce much more, which is why we are very happy that one of the world’s leading economic experts decided to become part of the Serbian government’s team, Vucic underlined.
Strauss-Khan stated that he will try to help citizens of Serbia to solve economic problems, but pointed out that that will not be easy because the global economy is in a poor state.
He assessed that the Serbian economy has serious problems, but added that he believes that with proper efforts the problems will be solved and success will be achieved.
Strauss-Khan also said that he will work for free in the first three months and that his pay will be determined later.
He specified that his team will need several months to evaluate the situation in more detail, when he will be able to give recommendations about the concept of economic recovery.
Strauss-Khan spoke today at the Serbian government with Vucic, Minister of Finance Lazar Krstic and Minister of Economy Sasa Radulovic.
