Speaking at a joint press conference with Kutesa held after their meeting, Mrkic said that he and his interlocutor agreed that Serbia and Uganda should strengthen their friendly ties that have existed for many decades and work on joint projects in the future, first of all in the field of the economy.
The two officials agreed that the preparation of agreements that will improve economic cooperation, namely the agreements on the avoidance of double taxation and protection and promotion of investments, should start immediately.
The Minister expressed his belief that Serbian companies will again find their place on the markets of African countries, especially the friendly ones such as Uganda.
Mrkic thanked Uganda on its principled support to Serbia’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, and highlighted that this country does not intend to change its position regarding Kosovo-Metohija.
He said that he hopes that this visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uganda to Belgrade will bring concrete results regarding the planned economic activities of Serbia and Uganda and added that the visits of top Serbian officials to Uganda and other African countries are planned in the near future.
Kutesa noted that Serbia and Uganda already cooperate internationally in many fields, and assessed that they should continue to boost their relations.
He underlined that there are great opportunities for investing in various fields, especially in trade and tourism, and added that some Serbian companies are already doing business in Uganda, but that the volume of trade should be increased.
According to him, an agreement was signed today that will encourage businessmen of the two countries to do business together.
