Minister of Culture and Information and Head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Vincent Degert visited today Senj mine, the birthplace of industrialisation of Serbia that was founded in 1853, where there is one of three still operating steam elevators in the world.
The European Union has provided funding of €1.5 million for the reconstruction and restoration of the building as part of the project "Technical assistance for the establishment of the Regional Centre of Cultural Heritage Senj Mine".
The project will open new jobs, and local government will be able to enrich the cultural and tourism offer.
Petkovic and Deger visited the exhibition of works created during the Art Colony "Senj mine – the miners city".
