Welcoming representatives of almost 200 countries, Selaković stressed that in the modern world, marked by numerous challenges and growing divisions, it is necessary to preserve UNESCO’s original values – multilateralism, mutual respect and the intellectual and moral solidarity of humanity.
The Minister emphasised that Serbia attaches great importance to the protection of its own cultural and religious heritage, especially in Kosovo and Metohija, where centuries-old Serbian holy sites have been exposed to long-term pressure, attacks and attempts to falsify historical identity.
We appeal to the international community and all relevant organisations, primarily UNESCO, to contribute to the protection and preservation of Serbian cultural heritage in Kosovo and Metohija, Selaković said.
He also noted that Serbia is investing in the development of education, the improvement of digital competencies and human capital, noting the country’s role as a regional leader in the development of artificial intelligence based on ethical principles and respect for human rights.
Selaković also recalled that Serbia will host Specialised Expo in 2027, which represents a great opportunity to improve cultural cooperation, foster diversity, and promote creativity and innovation on a global level.
